Implant Supported Dentures

Elderly woman enjoying her new smile from Tropic Dental in Fort Myers, FLTooth loss can occur for a variety of reasons, but replacing them can be important to your function and your oral health. Thankfully, dentures today and much different than the dentures your parents wore, they come with more options in design and how they are held in. The older generations experienced dentures that would slip and come loose, but today, your dentures can be held firmly where they belong, in your mouth. At Tropic Dental, we offer both permanent and removable dentures that are retained firmly in your mouth with the support of dental implants. You can have dentures that look and feel like natural teeth, and yes, we can even help you have teeth that allow you to eat corn on the cob.

Tooth Loss

Our teeth are strong, but they are subject to breakage, disease and loss. Most adults experience some amount of tooth loss, and as a person ages, the likelihood of tooth loss increases. The most common reason for tooth loss is a result of gum disease, or chronic periodontitis, but tooth loss can also occur from breakage, decay and trauma. No matter what caused the loss of a tooth, many problems follow. Patients who have experienced considerable tooth loss or disease, who require a full arch of replacement teeth can have their teeth restored with a denture. Dentures can be used on either the top or bottom arch, and they can be secured in your mouth.

Implant secured dentures can help you have a firm set of teeth that will not rock, move, or come loose. Most modern dentures have acrylic resin teeth, a material that can be made to look just like natural teeth, and an acrylic base that is colored to look just like your natural gum tissue. They are now designed to look more natural in shape, coloring and translucency.

Implant Retained OverDentures

An overdenture is designed to fit with implants. Overdentures include:

•  Ball Implant Retained Overdenture: This system utilizes a snap on and off system. The denture can be snapped onto the implants for a firm hold, or snapped off for cleaning or as needed.
•  Bar Implant Retained Overdenture: This system utilizes a bar that is connected to the implants. The denture is able to hook on and off the bar system for a firm hold while hooked and the ability to unhook for cleaning or as needed.

All-on-4® Treatment Concept

The All on 4 system is a non-removable, permanent denture solution that combines the denture with four dental implants. Sometimes referred to as a complete dental bridge, the All on 4 system works similarly to a bridge. We surgically place four implants to serve as anchors, with false teeth between. The end result is a full denture that remains right where it belongs, in your mouth.

The advantage of the All on 4 system is in the placement. Most dental implants require the preparatory step of a bone graft, followed by months of healing. The All on 4 system uses longer implants so that thicker bone is reached. These specialized implants are then placed at an angle to capture the most bone material. The end result is a firm implanted denture system that is completed in one day, and though healing time will require you to use the denture with ease, the results are faster and easier.
