Is It Possible to Keep Our Original Teeth Our Entire Lives?

Is It Possible to Keep Our Original Teeth Our Entire Lives? There is really no secret to keeping your original teeth for your entire life. While dental emergencies and dental trauma are factors beyond your control that can cause tooth loss, the lifespan of your teeth largely depends on how you treat them every single day of your life. We have had many patients who regret not practicing good oral habits from an early age and also some who've religiously upheld good oral hygiene for their entire lives but who've fallen victim to dental emergencies and traumas. However, we also have a good number of patients with excellent dental habits who come in for regular checkups and are poised to keep their natural teeth for the rest of their lives.

By sticking to the right dental habits at all times, you stand a greater chance of maintaining your teeth in their pristine condition for life, even if you falter now and then and forget to brush or floss, consume lots of sugary food and tobacco, and binge excessively on tea or coffee.

Tips to Safeguard your Teeth All Through your Life

Your first line of defense against anything that might be detrimental to your dental health is proper brushing and flossing habits. It is recommended for everyone with adult teeth to brush twice daily for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush and to floss once daily. This helps make your mouth constantly uninhabitable to harmful bacteria and fungus while also nourishing your gums and teeth with vital minerals and other substances needed for cell growth and maintenance.

You also need to watch what you consume. Eat mouth-friendly foods like fruits, greens and root veggies that nourish your teeth and gums with nutrients like vitamin C, calcium, vitamin D, etc. And avoid foods and drinks that can degrade your teeth and gums like alcohol, sugary foods, tobacco, etc. Also, avoid medications that cause oral problems like dry mouth, teeth discoloration, etc.
